The panel of judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine has opened constitutional proceedings on the proposal of 49 deputies regarding the constitutionality of the law of Ukraine obliging the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) to indicate in its name that it belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).

"The case is being prepared for consideration at a plenary session of the Chamber of the Court," the website of the Constitutional Court said.

As reported, on January 18, 2019, Opposition Bloc faction parliament deputies and a number of extra-factional parliamentarians asked the Constitutional Court to rule on the compliance of the Constitution with the law on renaming the UOC (MP). The constitutional representation was signed by 49 deputies.
