Kyiv's Shevchenkivsky district court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of custody for a period of two months to the driver of the off-road car "Hummer", who ran over a 10-year-old girl at the pedestrian crossing on Lesi Ukrainky Boulevard in Kyiv.

"He has been arrested without the right to bail," press secretary of the prosecutor's office of the city of Kyiv, Nadia Maksymets, informed the Interfax-Ukraine agency on Thursday.

As reported, at about 22:30 on July 24, the driver of the off-road car "Hummer" ran over a girl in the center of Kyiv. He was served a suspicion notice under Part 2 of Article 286 (violation of road safety rules) of Ukraine's Criminal Code of Ukraine.

On July 25, head of the Main Department of the National Police of Kyiv Andriy Kryshchenko said that the driver was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code, and the investigator detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Kryshchenko said the driver left the scene of the accident before being apprehended.

Kyiv's Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) said the suspect is 23 years old. Prosecutors said he ignored a red light and ran over a 10-year old girl, who died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Law enforcement agencies reported that the girl was a Russian citizen.
