Kyivstar says vandals damage communication cables in Dnipropetrovsk region

Kyivstar mobile communication operator explained interruptions of mobile communication in Dnipropetrovsk region by eight cases of damage caused to cable by vandals, Kyivstar President Peter Chernyshov has written on his Facebook page.

"Only on May 7 in Dnipropetrovsk region eight cables were damaged! Thieves and vandals destroy our network every night. It is because of their actions that our subscribers cannot get through to the ambulance. They have interruptions with the Internet or the conversations are interrupted. We announce every case of damage or theft of cables and equipment [to the police]. and so what? Nothing! The thieves are detained very seldom, and even less often they are punished," he said.

According to Chernyshov, the operator managed to eliminate all the damages.

"But I understand the subscribers: they do not care what caused communication problems, they need everything to work without interruption. They hail curses on us, not understanding that the problem is vandalism. I understand that the police and regional authorities are doing everything possible, but they, in fact, do not care. There are more serious problems," Chernyshov said.

According to him, the direct loss of mobile operators from the theft of telecom equipment for 2015-2017 amounted to more than UAH 816 million, the cost of restoration was more than UAH 1.2 billion. In total during this period more than 70,000 facts of thefts were recorded.

"On behalf of all operators and all residents of Ukraine, I ask the police, the prosecutor's office and courts to take active measures! I am ready to personally tell on cameras about many cases of vandalism..," the president of Kyivstar said.
