Ukraine may receive $200 mln in 2019 to strengthen defense

The draft federal budget of the United States for 2019 provides $200 million for Ukraine to strengthen security and defense, the Ukrainian embassy to the United States said on Facebook.

"These funds are proposed to be used to provide military equipment and munitions, other military equipment and services, logistics support, intelligence support to the Armed Forces and the Ukrainian security forces," the embassy said.

It says that, compared to the budget request for 2018, the proposed amount of security assistance to the Ukrainian state has been increased by $50 million.

"In the draft budget for 2019, Ukraine is included in a small list of countries that will receive security assistance also on the program of the State Department called Foreign Military Financing (FMF)," the embassy of Ukraine said.

It is noted that the budget request must be studied and discussed in the U.S. Congress, where amendments and supplements can be made.

"The final amount of aid to Ukraine will be known after the completion of the entire process of passing the document, which is now at an early stage," Ukrainian diplomats said.
