Over 30,000 Ukrainians sign military contracts in 2017

More than 30,700 Ukrainians have signed contracts to service in Ukraine's Armed Forces in 2017, the Army Ground Forces command press service has said.

"In 2017, 30,740 Ukrainians were selected by military commissars and entered service. Moreover, 1,976 servicemen signed contracts and want to extend their military service," says the press release, which was published on the press service's website on Tuesday.

The notice says that military commissar offices for the first time in 2018 sent soldier candidates to military training centers according to contracts.

"More that 650 Ukrainian citizens were sent to Ukrainian Army schools, while around 400 Ukrainians citizens were accepted at Ukrainian Army Ground Forces schools," the notice says, adding that overwhelming majority of candidates for military service by contract (around 90%) decided to service in army's ground forces units.

"Candidates for contract military service among women have been offered billets in battle units, mobile hospitals and autonomous medical units," the notice says.
