Cases on treason of six Sevastopol City Council deputies sent to court

The Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has sent to court indictments against six Sevastopol City Council deputies under Part 1, Article 111 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, according to the official website of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.

"During the investigation into criminal proceedings unconditional evidence was received that in March 2014, Sevastopol City Council deputies provided assistance and facilitated occupation of Crimea. In particular, they illegally adopted a number of resolutions and supported the decision by the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to hold an all-Crimean referendum, leading to temporary occupation of the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as their illegal entry into the Russian Federation as a subject of the federation," reads the statement.

The Prosecutor General's Office noted that the defendants could be imprisoned for 12-15 years.

Earlier, the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea had already sent to courts indictments against 18 Sevastopol City Council deputies.

As reported, ten of them were sent to the district courts of the city of Kyiv within three months - from September to November 2017.
