SBU detains Uzbek citizen placed on international wanted list for extremism

Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have detained a citizen of Uzbekistan in Odesa region, who was placed on the international wanted list on suspicion of extremism.

"Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine, based on information from Interpol and Europol, have detained a citizen of Uzbekistan in Odesa region, who was put on the international wanted list for committing particularly serious crimes," the SBU's press center reported.

The report notes that the detainee took an active part in the activities of the Jihadchilar (Jihadists) international religious extremist group, and he was a member of the structural unit of the Jamaat group.

"The detainee, in particular, was responsible for recruiting new extremists and also promoted the ideas of radical Islam," the SBU said.

According to law enforcers, the citizen of Uzbekistan intended to spread religious extremist ideology and attract new members to Jihadchilar in Ukraine.

The issue of applying to the foreigner an extradition arrest with subsequent transfer to the state security bodies of Uzbekistan is currently being decided.
