Representatives of civil society and non-governmental organizations have discussed with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko a number of problems in the fight against corruption, according to Executive Director at Transparency International Ukraine Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, who was present at the discussion.

According to him, during the meeting the parties agreed on the need to provide the future Anti-Corruption Court with the legislative framework before March this year.

"Discussions on specific provisions in parliament are expedient, while ultimatums from any parties are not. The overall goal is full compliance with the legislation and recommendations of the Venice Commission, but only its [recommendations]," he wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday, January 17.

He also confirmed that the president unambiguously supports the abolition of mandatory declaration of property and income by anti-corruption activists and that "his political party" submits this issue to the agenda.

"Yes, politicians require a broader report from public organizations, but what kind of report it is should be agreed with public organizations, either in parliamentary discussions or in another way, but not postponing this until April," Yurchyshyn said.

According to him, Poroshenko promised to sign bill No. 4738-d adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on December 21 on monitoring public procurement (a monitoring of the Prozorro system), "although he received different estimates of it."

He said that the participants in the meeting had also discussed a wide range of other issues - "from national security to civil education."

"There is an understanding of common challenges and the desire to seek synergy... The conversation was sincere, with emotional assessments and discussions," Yurchyshyn said.

Olha Aivazovska, coordinator of the electoral programs of the Opora civil society network, said earlier that on Wednesday, January 17, there was the first meeting between non-governmental organizations and the president in 2018, at which the sides agreed on a number of positions that are important ahead of presidential and parliamentary elections to be held in Ukraine in 2019.
