Peace in Donbas cannot be achieved without ceasefire – Swiss ambassador

Swiss Ambassador to Ukraine and Moldova Guillaume Scheurer has said he believes that without a lasting ceasefire it is impossible to achieve security in Donbas and move to steps in accordance with the Minsk agreements.

"Without a ceasefire it will be just impossible for the Minsk process to go on and for the next steps to be followed," he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

Scheurer noted that the commitments of the sides within the Minsk process must be fulfilled.

"It is important that the authorities on both sides call to respect all principles of international humanitarian law. In particular, it's connected with infrastructure: water, pipelines, energy stations and so on. That has been on purpose targeted. This is something that cannot be accepted. It's against international humanitarian law, and this is something we also advocate," the ambassador said.

According to him, the ongoing conflict in Donbas is "very hot."
