Police in Donetsk region have opened a criminal investigation into the beating of a policeman by MP Volodymyr Parasiuk (non-factional) in Mariupol.

"In Mariupol, on December 4, at the end of the meeting of the Court of Appeals of Donetsk region, on changing the measure of restraint to two ex-volunteers suspected of robbery and publicizing the decision of the judges, the MP hit one policeman and damaged the equipment of another one," the press service of the National Police of Ukraine's Donetsk region said on Facebook on Tuesday.

Law enforcers said that the events involving MP Parasiuk were recorded on video. The injured policeman was diagnosed with a concussion and a bruise.

In fact, criminal proceedings were opened under Article 345 (threat or violence against a law enforcement official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

A pretrial investigation was begun.
