President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Executive Director of General Electric Transportation Rafael Santana have discussed prospects for strategic cooperation in the field of modernization of Ukrainian railways.

"The parties noted interest in strengthening effective cooperation between Ukrzaliznytsia and General Electric Transportation, primarily in updating locomotives, in order to promote the development and modernization of Ukrainian railways in accordance with the best international standards," the press service of the Ukrainian president stated.

Poroshenko assured the GE Transportation official in readiness to promote mutually beneficial cooperation with General Electric Transportation, which is aimed at strengthening the transport, transit and export potential of Ukraine. In addition, the sides discussed the development of cooperation with the American side for a strategic perspective.

The parties noted that the existing positive climate in political relations between Ukraine and the United States, as well as progress in the reforms create a favorable ground for the active attracting of the leading American companies to Ukraine.
