Gerashchenko initiates mandatory use of retroreflectors by children

The Ukrainian interior minister's adviser, People's Front MP Anton Gerashchenko, initiates the mandatory use of retroreflective stickers by children in Ukraine, which will help reduce the death rate on the roads.

"Ukraine should immediately take advantage of the European experience in the use of light reflecting elements. I call on Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman and Interior Minister Arsen Avakov to head the movement for the introduction of the mandatory use of retroreflective stickers for children in Ukraine. We must protect the lives of our children!" Gerashchenko wrote on his Facebook page.

He cited the example of Estonia, where the death rate among pedestrians on the roads shrank by more than six times two years after the government conducted a campaign on the free distribution of reflective safety vests. At the same time, parents can be fined if their child's clothing does not have light reflecting elements. In Latvia, a similar campaign helped reduce the death rate among pedestrians by more than two times.
