Gerashchenko criticizes Belarusian position on Crimea in UN vote

First Deputy Verkhovna Rad Speaker Iryna Gerashchenko has criticized the position of the Belarusian delegation to the United Nations for voting on the resolution on Crimea, saying it contradicts the self-proclaimed neutrality of Belarus.

"This is the second knife in the back of Ukraine following a vote on a similar motion last year," she said on her Facebook page.

Gerashchenko said the UN General Assembly vote on the Crimea resolution was planned for December.

"We would like to see neutrality from those countries, which loudly declare their neutrality, the citizens of which countries are members of the OSCE's Special Monitoring Mission and which want to joint peacekeeping efforts in Donbas," she said.

The first deputy Rada speaker said that on November 14 the Third Committee of the UN voted for an updated resolution on human rights in occupied Crimea.

"More than 70 countries voted "for," and almost an equal number abstained. Only 25 countries voted against the measure, including Belarus, which did not have enough "neutrality" to contradict the Russian position. And Minsk relishes its role as peacekeeper, emphasizing that it has created a neutral place for discussing Donbas issues," she said.
