National Police chief intends to change training system for criminal police officers

Head of the National Police of Ukraine Serhiy Kniazev has announced his intention to change the system of recruitment and training of young employees of the criminal police.

During the meeting on Friday Kniazev said that the agency plans to completely change the system of recruiting and training candidates for service in the criminal police units. So, 75-80% of candidates will take office after a certain period of service in the patrol police units. Thus, before starting the service, the candidate will have some work experience, the press service of the National Police said.

At the same time, the remaining candidates - 20-25% of the required number of operatives - will receive specialized education. After receiving education, young operatives will be taught by their experienced colleagues.

Kniazev appealed to the heads of the regional criminal police units, present at the meeting, with a demand to give the necessary attention to the training of young operatives.

"You have to teach, because you are the "skeleton staff" that will form and teach a new generation of Ukrainian policemen," Kniazev said.

In addition, it is planned to create police units that will more actively counteract crime. One of such forms of work is the creation of the institute of police detectives.

"We plan to reformat the work of the criminal investigation department - we are creating an entirely new division, which will include the best workers, 70% of whom are operatives and 30% are investigators," he said.
