Ukraine to discuss assistance for its defense sector transfer to NATO standards – Klimkin

At the next NATO summit, Kyiv will raise the issue of getting assistance for switching its defense and security sector to the Alliance standards, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said.

"We have a very ambitious goal: to adapt our security and defense sector to NATO standards by 2020... The summit in Brussels will take place next year. We will need to talk about what assistance we need to implement this plan one hundred percent," he told journalists in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to the minister, Ukraine must adhere to the reached agreements and agreed plans for reform of the defense and security sector.

"Russia threatens the entire civilized world, therefore by becoming a NATO member, we will defend ourselves and the entire free world," Klimkin added.

The next NATO summit will be held in Brussels on July 11-12, 2018.
