Ukraine's State Migration Service denies refugee status to Saakashvili, now he can be extradited

Ukraine's Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has said the State Migration Service has denied a refugee status to former president of Georgia, ex-head of Odesa Regional Administration, Leader of New Forces Movement party Mikheil Saakashvili.

"I have news. Earlier I used to say that Saakashvili has a status that makes it impossible for him to be deported or extradited. Now the State Migration Service has denied him the status of a refugee, which he requested, and Mr. Saakashvili, as always, failed to challenge this decision in court," Lutsenko told journalists in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Thus, "there are no special circumstances" that could prevent Saakashvili from being deported or extradited, the prosecutor general said. "And the State Migration Service knows this for sure," Lutsenko added.
