Medvedchuk tells about swap offer in '309 for 87' format

Ukraine's special representative in the humanitarian affairs subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group Viktor Medvedchuk has reported on the preparation for a "large swap" of detainees kept by ORDO and ORLO.

"As a result of the work carried out on September 1, there was a proposal to consider the release of 87 wanted Ukrainian citizens. In turn, we are ready to consider the release of 309 persons wanted by the ORDO and the ORLO. We don't include in this list of 309 persons those who are accused or convicted for committing especially serious crimes, as well as those who are accused or convicted for committing crimes that are not connected with the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO)," Medvedchuk said in the commentary to the Ukrayinsky Vybir (Ukrainian Choice), the press service of the Ukrayinsky Vybir, headed by the politician, said on Tuesday.

He recalled that the Ukrainian side is looking for 144 people located on the territory of the ORDO and ORLO, while, 87 of them have been established their location, and the search for the rest is ongoing.

"The problem with the release is due to the fact that the lists for its implementation need to be approved by all parties. The large number of persons wanted by the ORDO and the ORLO and those, located on the territory of Ukraine, refuse to return to territories beyond Ukraine's control. The verification of these persons reduces the number of those asked by the ORDO and ORLO, and the completion of this work and lengthy talks to clarify and harmonize the lists, have opened the way for the return of Ukrainians home, to their families," Medvedchuk said.
