U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker has confirmed the U.S. goal is to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine and its sovereignty, Radio Liberty reported.

Speaking during a conference on regional leadership in Vilnius university, he recalled that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson outlined these goals when he visited Kyiv on July 9, Radio Liberty reported on its website on Tuesday evening.

In addition, one of the U.S. tasks is to help in establishing the security of all citizens of Ukraine, regardless of their national or religious affiliation.

The U.S. envoy stressed that a war is currently waged on the European continent, at a distance of less than one and a half hours of flight by plane, and in order to stop it, a long and lasting ceasefire must be achieved.

Volker will be joined on his visit to Kyiv on August 23 by U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.
