PM waiting for transport development strategy from Infrastructure Ministry

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said that there is no an extensive strategy for development of the transport sector in Ukraine and he is waiting for the draft document from the Infrastructure Ministry.

"The situation in the Infrastructure Ministry sphere is the same: railways, ports, transportation by air – unfortunately we do not have any strategic vision in all these areas. The Infrastructure Ministry should propose the development strategy: where we are going, what we want to make with airports and how the river transport will be developed," he said in an interview with Channel 5 TV asked about the conflict between Minister Volodymyr Omelyan and Ukrzaliznytsia Board Chairman Wojciech Balczun.

He took the situation with regional airports as an example.

"Today the Kherson airport is face to face [with the market]. We must support it…We should describe how we will develop the Boryspil hub, Kyiv Zhuliany airport, Hostomel, which could be the main airport for low cost airlines, how we will develop airports Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Vinnytsia, Odesa and others," he said.

He said that the strategy should foresee the complementary construction of all types of transport, including for passengers.

As for accusations of corruption against Ukrzaliznytsia, the prime minister said that he sends all similar applications to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).

He said that he is waiting for the result from all top managers of the sector and he will help the Infrastructure Ministry to reach efficiency.
