President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has posthumously awarded the rank of general to the officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Maksym Shapoval, who had been killed earlier in Kyiv.

"Award Major-General Colonel Shapoval Maksym Mykhailovych (posthumously) a military rank," text of decree No. 169/2017 reads, signed by the president on Friday and published on the official website of the president.

As reported, in the morning of June 27 in the Solomiansky district of Kyiv there was an explosion of the car, as a result of which the officer of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Colonel Shapoval, of 1978 year birth, was killed. Criminal proceedings were opened under Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act).
