Health Ministry to buy serum from botulism via international organizations

Ukraine's Ministry of Health plans to purchase serum from botulism through international organizations, since such a mechanism will allow buying drugs that are not currently registered in Ukraine.

According to the ministry, at present the agency has prepared calculations of the corresponding budget program for the purchase of serum from diphtheria, rabies, tetanus, botulism, and malaria.

Procurement will become possible after amendments are put to the law on the national budget for 2017.

"According to the current legislation of Ukraine, neither the Ministry of Health nor other health agencies can buy these medicines unless they are registered. So now the only legal way is to purchase necessary drugs through international organizations," the ministry said.

In addition, the ministry said it had appealed to international organizations asking to supply serum from botulism as humanitarian aid.

The ministry said it had repeatedly appealed to potential applicants and serum producers with the request for the possibility of initiating the state registration of the drugs in the territory of Ukraine.
