EU confirms it doesn't recognize IDs issued by self-proclaimed Donbas republics

The European Union does not recognize passports and other documents issued by the self-proclaimed republics in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs & Security Policy Maja Kocijancic has said.

"We've said a while ago already that the issue of the decree that was signed on February 18 by the President of the Russian Federation, which recognizes certain documents issued by the so-called people's republics in Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, was raised and discussed when the High Representative [of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini] last met Russian Foreign Minister [Sergey] Lavrov, which was in Munich in February," she said at a press briefing in Brussels on Friday.

"We believe that the decree is not in keeping with the spirit of the Minsk agreements, and we remain unwavering in our support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty and unity, and in favor of pushing for full implementation of the Minsk agreements. And we have also already said that the travel documents issued by the so-called 'DPR' and 'LPR' are not recognized within the European Union," she added.
