U.S. Embassy, EU Delegation welcome pre-trial restriction for Nasirov, call for anti-corruption court

The U.S. Embassy and the European Union Delegation in Ukraine have welcomed the court's choosing pre-trial restriction for the suspended head of the State Fiscal Service, Roman Nasirov, and noted the need to establish a specialized anti-corruption court in Ukraine.

"We commend the increasingly effective efforts of Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau and Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office to deliver on their mandates. We welcome the court's taking action on March 7, while noting the last several days underscore the need to establish a specialized anti-corruption court," the U.S. Embassy and the EU Delegation in Ukraine said in a joint statement on Thursday.

These events also highlight why the pending NABU audit must be independent, transparent and lead to an objective analysis of NABU's operations over the last year, the diplomats said.

"Ukraine's success in its anti-corruption efforts is critical to delivering results demanded by the people on the Maidan as well as to attracting the foreign direct investment that is needed to support Ukraine's economy," the U.S. Embassy and the EU Delegation said.

As reported, on March 7, Solomyansky District Court of Kyiv chose a pretrial restriction for the suspended chief of the State Fiscal Service, Roman Nasirov, in the form of arrest for 60 days and levied a bail of UAH 100 million.

The court had been considering the matter of choosing a pretrial restriction for Nasirov since Saturday evening.
