Investigators believe actions by the head of Ukraine's State Fiscal Service Roman Nasirov resulted in the loss of about UAH 2 billion to the state budget. Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) will recommend Nasirov's sacking, head of the PGO's Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) Nazar Kholodyntsky has said.

Kholodnytsky said Nasirov acted in the interests of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deputy Oleksandr Onyshchenko in the so-called "gas case" and authorized delayed payments for a number of enterprises.

He said SAPO will check the circumstances under which Nasirov was served a notice of suspicion on Thursday evening and why the doctor at the Feofaniya hospital, where Nasirov is currently located, did not permit SAPO agents from visiting him there.

"The SAPO prosecutor was not allowed access to Nasirov. An agent of the National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine served him notice. I am waiting for information from detectives about what happened. I read on the Internet reports that he was unconscious and am checking these reports," Kholodytsky said.

The SAPO chief said serving notice to Nasirov does not mean he is a suspect, adding that NABU has two months to conduct a pretrial investigation of the case.

SAPO's press service said that during the evening on March 2, 2017 NABU detectives, acting on an order received from SAPO, served Nasirov notice of suspicion of his involvement in crimes pursuant to Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misuse of public office resulting in significant negative consequences).
