Poroshenko approves concept of improving society's awareness on cooperation between Ukraine, NATO in 2017-20
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed decree No. 43/2017 "On the concept of improving the public awareness of Ukraine's cooperation with NATO for the period 2017-2020, the official website of the president says.
According to the decree, Ukraine is establishing new approaches for ensuring national security based on the long-term goal of joining the pan-European system of collective security, which basis was built by NATO. To this end, the state will implement the integration into the European political, economic and legal environment in order to gain EU membership, as well as to deepen cooperation with NATO to achieve the criteria necessary for the acquisition of membership in this organization.
The president's decree is aimed at increasing the level of public support for the state policy in the sphere of Euro-Atlantic integration and the level of confidence of citizens of Ukraine to NATO as a key institution in strengthening international security.
In particular, it is proposed to conduct briefings on a regular basis on cooperation with NATO, conferences, round tables, work shops and information events on the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, the Euro-Atlantic Partnership days and weeks of NATO. Furthermore, the functioning of the thematic web-portal "Ukraine-NATO" and updating of the official web-sites of state authorities on public policy in the field of Euro-Atlantic integration should be ensured. The concept also proposes the creation of television and radio programs explaining the state policy in the sphere of Euro-Atlantic integration, preparation of appropriate information products for secondary and higher education institutions.
To introduce the concept, financial capabilities of national and international business organizations, foundations and non-governmental organizations may be engaged.
According to the decree, the Cabinet within a month is to develop and approve the plan of measures on realization of the concept for the current year and up to December 15 of each year it has to approve the plan of measures on realization of the concept for the next year.
The decree comes into force from the date of its publication.
