Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met U.S. Senator Richard Durbin and U.S. Congressman Michael Quigley where they discussed the situation in Donbas and further cooperation, according to a posting on the official website of the head of state.

"The parties discussed the enhancement of strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States and counteraction to the Russian aggression," the press service said late on Tuesday.

Poroshenko thanked for the firm and consistent bipartisan support for Ukraine by both Houses of Congress in countering the ongoing Russian aggression.

Poroshenko provided detailed information on the escalation of the situation in Donbas, the ongoing provocations, as well as the violation of the ceasefire regime by militants controlled by Russia.

The parties noted the necessity of preserving and enhancing international sanctions against Russia until it fully implements the Minsk agreements and restores Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including Crimea.

Special attention was paid to the implementation of reforms in Ukraine and further U.S. facilitation in that process.
