The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has compared the current scale of the fighting in Donbas with what happened there in 2014.

"It's safe to say that hostilities have unfolded along the entire frontline, which was last observed quite a long time ago, in 2014," Ukrainian Defense Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Motuzianyk told a briefing conference in Kyiv on Friday.

In the past 24 hours, the quantity of shelling by the adversary in the Anti-Terrorist operation (ATO) area exceeded 100 instances for the first time since April 14, 2016, he added.

According to Motuzianyk, fighting around Avdiyivka is raging round the clock now. Kyiv's adversary is using mortars, artillery guns and Grad multiple rocket launchers against Ukrainian troops, he said.

"The quantity of rounds released from heavy weapons against Avdiyivka and the positions of Ukrainian forces on its flanks has reached 2,000. There are casualties among civilians: one local woman was killed and another injured. Also, a foreign journalist was wounded on his face," Motuzianyk said.
