Ukrainian court permits Yanukovych's arrest

Pechersky District Court in Kyiv at a closed court hearing on Wednesday upheld the prosecutor's request for permission to detain former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine's Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has said.

"On December 14, 2016, Pechersky District Court of Kyiv examined in a closed court hearing a request of prosecutor of the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office Kravchenko for permission to detain the suspect Yanukovych with a view to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention, has ruled to grant the petition and grant permission for Yanukovych's detention," Lutsenko wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.

As reported, on November 28, 2016, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko notified Yanukovych of suspicion under two articles of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, 110 and 111 (treason and infringement on the territorial integrity of the country).

Considering that Yanukovych is outside Ukraine, effectively hiding from Ukrainian law enforcement authorities, the content of the suspicion was declared orally, and the notice of suspicion itself was sent out to all of Yanukovych's known addresses and will also be handed to the latter's lawyer, Lutsenko said.
