Joint Statement draft of NATO-Ukraine Military Commission to be ready by Dec

A Joint Statement draft in the format of NATO-Ukraine Military Commission will be submitted to all 28 NATO members in December of this year, the Liaison Department of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has said.

As reported on the official website of Defense Ministry, the second round of talks on the formation of the Joint Statement of the work plan implementation of the NATO-Ukraine Military Commission in 2016 took place in Kyiv with the participation of officers of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, representatives of different types of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and officers of the NATO’s International Military Staff (IMS).

The Joint Statement draft, elaborated by negotiators, says that despite the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and its apparent involvement in destabilizing of the situation in Donbas, the political and military leadership of Ukraine continues pushing ahead with reforms in the areas of security and defense. "The implementation of the NATO standards, the introduction of best practices and achievement of interoperability with NATO forces are seen as the main goal, which the Armed and Security Forces of Ukraine face today," the draft document says.

During the negotiations, the Ukrainian side informed the partners that the objectives and values on which the bilateral cooperation in the format of the NATO-Ukraine Military Commission is formed, have found their reflection in the priorities of development of the Armed Forces of Ukraine until 2020, which will result in compatibility of Ukrainian troops with the Armed Forces of NATO countries.
