Ukraine's Security & Defense Council chief, Turkey's undersecretary for defense industry discuss joint projects

Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov and Turkey's Undersecretary for Defense Industry Ismail Demir have discussed cooperation between leading enterprises of the two countries' defense industries and the implementation of joint projects in military and technical cooperation, the NSDC's official website said on Monday.

Agreement to set up a joint group to coordinate military and technical cooperation was implemented after a previous meeting with Demir, and "the group has begun to effectively work," Turchynov said.

"We are working to implement specific projects and a wide range of tasks, in particular in terms of the manufacture of armored vehicles, rocket and aircraft manufacture, and others," the NSDC secretary said.

Ukraine considers that the creation of joint ventures with Turkey "that would be engaged in the manufacture of munitions, unmanned aerial vehicles, rocket and missile engineering, tank construction, communications devices, and the like" will have potential, he said.

The parties also discussed Turkish investments in the military-industrial complex of Ukraine.

Demir in turn said that Turkey is interested in developing cooperation with Ukraine in the field of defense industry. "We appreciate cooperation with Ukraine and are interested in significant expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation ... We see our country can ensure the implementation of many large-scale projects that will constitute greater synergy and strengthen their defense capabilities," the Turkish official said.
