Police attestation completed, 26% of police commanders dismissed

Head of the National Police of Ukraine Khatia Dekanoidze has announced the end police attestation and the sacking of 26% of police force commanders.

"We have completed attestation. Let me cite a small number: We got rid of 26% of police commanders and we found new people and promoted 4,400 policemen and policewomen," she said during an Interior Ministry meeting held in Kyiv on Thursday.

Dekanoidza added that 4,400 policemen and policewomen had also been demoted.

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said the end of the attestation process marks the last stage of uncertainty in the work of police, adding concrete results are not expected.

"Attestation is over. This week the National Police will present permanent assignments to all regional units. Key positions have been filled, and I will demand the highest disciple and results, starting from today," the minister said.

Avakov said that the transition period (for the police force) has ended.

"The time of uncertainty – who will work and who will not – is over. It's now time for results," he said.
