NATO condemns extension of Russia's military presence in Crimea

NATO does not recognize Crimea's accession to Russia and condemns Russian military activity in the peninsula, a NATO officer has told Interfax in Brussels.

"NATO condemns the continuing large-scale building up of Russian military capacity in Crimea," the source said, noting the provisions of the Warsaw Summit press release dated July 9, 2016.

"Russia is also fully responsible for the serious deterioration of the situation with human rights in the Crimean peninsula. In particular, this includes discrimination against Crimean Tatars and other local communities," the source said.

He noted that "the allies cannot and won't recognize the continuing illegal annexation of Crimea and urge Russia to cancel it."
