The Verkhovna Rada has allowed personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who are serving on a contract basis, during the term of the special period in the country to resign from the army before the contract termination, renew the contract or early break it before it expires.

Some 233 deputies voted for the law on amendments to the law of Ukraine on military duty and military service, concerning specification of the terms of military service under the contract (No. 4689).

The document stipulates that military personnel, who signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during the term of the special period are entitled to renew the contract for a period of six, eight or 12 months. They also have the right to early terminate it, resign from the Armed Forces of Ukraine before the contract expires.

The document also allows soldiers, who signed contracts, during the ATO period "prior to completion of the special period to break or re-sign contracts."
