Savchenko ready to negotiate prisoner swap directly with DPR, LPR leaders

Ukrainian parliamentarian Nadia Savchenko said she is ready to hold talks over the release of captured Ukrainian soldiers with the leaders of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics (DPR and LPR, respectively), against whom she had fought in Donbas, but not with the politicians.

"I am ready to talk to the people that I met in action. If I met personally with Igor Plotnitsky [LPR leader], then I know that I can talk to this person because he at least knows what he is talking about because he's been there. I heard that [DPR leader Alexander] Zakharchenko fought. I have not met him personally, but the guys said yes, he did [fight]... So I am ready to talk about the war and prisoner exchange to the people who know first hand what the price of human life is," Savchenko said in an interview with Radio Liberty.

At the same time she said she does not want to talk to those "who want to see themselves as politicians of the so-called LPR and DPR."

"I don't know who Pushilin [DPR negotiator Denis Pushilin at Minsk talks] is. Yes, I saw him on Russian television... That is all I have seen... I don't want to talk to Pushilin. I don't want to talk in Minsk. I want to talk directly to the people who are literally from the battlefield," Savchenko said.

The parliamentarian also denied being an acquaintance of Ukrainian Choice leader Viktor Medvedchuk.

"I am not familiar with him at all... I know that my sister got in touch with him. Because she is the same as me, she'd speak to the devil for the sake of my release. And I, for the sake of every guy who remains there. And I also wish no ill on the guys who remain here. I mean the prisoners-of-war. I think there has to be an all-for-all exchange, there has to be a truce, there have to be certain amnesties," she said.
