Ukrainian MP Nadia Savchenko has said that it is necessary to establish a direct dialogue between Kyiv and representatives of the self-proclaimed Donbas republics, for the purpose of resolving the issue of the region's return under Ukraine's control.

"The first step is extending the anti-Russian sanctions, because Russia does not yet understand that it needs to step back. The second step is to establish direct communication with the DPR and the LPR without the Minsk Agreements. To establish direct internal communication without the third and fourth sides," Savchenko said during the broadcast of Radio Era on Tuesday.

In response to a question whether the direct negotiations between Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Alexander Zakharchenko are possible, Savchenko said: "No, Mr. Zakharchenko isn't our president, we have only one president." "Zakharchenko and Plotnitsky may present themselves as, so to speak, the people's deputies of the DPR and the LPR. I am ready to speak with them this way," she said.
