Russia cancels arrest warrant for Vira Savchenko

The representative of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Chechen Republic has cancelled the arrest warrant for Vira Savchenko – Nadia Savchenko's sister, lawyer Ilya Novikov has said.

"The arrest warrant for Vira Savchenko has been cancelled," he wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.

Novikov has also posted a photocopy of the April 28 order that cancels arrest warrant.

The document says a criminal case was opened against Savchenko on November 19, 2015 under Part 2 of Article 297 (contempt of a court) for "repeated court trial violations", classified under the Russian Criminal Code (...) as contempt of a court. Vira had been accused of insulting Chechen court judge V.D. Ismailov on October 28, 2015.

The ruling reads: Savchenko's location was not established on March 25, 2016. It says she was summoned to a bail hearing, ordered to remain in Russia and to obey the law.
