No date when elections to happen in Donbas voiced - Nuland

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland has said that during a meeting with Ukrainian MPs that no dates for elections in uncontrolled territories of Donbas have been scheduled.

"Reports about my meeting with Rada representatives yesterday were completely inaccurate. We have put no date on when elections need to happen. We have made absolutely clear that [the] Minsk [Agreements] requires that there be sufficient security and OSCE access and the ability of candidates to ballot and the ability of citizens to hear from candidates before we can have an election. That's what Minsk says. It's logical, as in any country," Nuland said at an open press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.

According to her, Ukraine is making preparations for such elections, though an obligatory condition for them to be carried is restoration of security in Donbas which is absent now there.

Besides, Nuland said the elections in the territories of Donbas beyond Kyiv's control must match Ukrainian legislation and international standards.

As reported, on April 26 Samopomich MP Viktoria Voitsitska following a meeting with the representatives of parliamentary factions with Nuland said that he United States Department of State insisted on changes to the Ukrainian Constitution regarding a special status for the breakaway parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, specifically on elections being held in the occupied areas as early as July, and amnesty granted to armed group members.
