Justice ministry accepts Savchenko's request for procedure to return home

Justice Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko has reported that the ministry has received Nadia Savchenko a request on return her to Ukraine.

"Nadia Savchenko must be brought back to Ukraine! Justice ministry of Ukraine received a request from Nadia where she asks to launch the procedure for returning to Ukraine," Petrenko wrote on Facebook on Monday.

He said that he would "do everything possible" in accordance to the international conventions to bring Savchenko back to Ukraine.

"For many times I've been insisting that Nadia Savchenko was illegally kidnapped from the territory of Ukraine and was judged by the court that Nadia doesn't recognize. This is why she even banned her lawyers from appealing this shameful verdict. Tomorrow I'll meet with her sister Vira," the minister said.

The ministry also said that on April 19 Petrenko will chair an inter-government conference of a high level, concerning brining Savchenko back to Ukraine.

"At 1500, Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko and Vira Savchenko will give a briefing for the press following the meeting," the ministry said.
