U.S., NATO continue to assist, train Ukraine's military

The United States and NATO continue to support Ukraine in the conflict with Russia and will assist in the development of Ukrainian military defense capabilities, U.S. President Barack Obama has said.

According to Voice of America, on April 4 U.S. President Barack Obama held a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in the White House, during which the parties discussed the Eastern direction of the alliance's activities.

"We continue to be united in supporting Ukraine, in the wake of Russian incursions into the Ukrainian territory. We continue to work in the training and assist fashion in helping support Ukraine develop its military capabilities, defensively," the U.S. president said.

The president said the United States continues to provide reassurance to frontline NATO allies that "Article 5 means something," while working with Russia to try to find a resolution to the Ukrainian conflict and "reduce tensions and the dangers of potential escalation."
