Poroshenko, Kerry discuss need for maintenance of sanctions against Russia for it to fully implement Minsk accords

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko at a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference discussed the need for the maintenance of sanctions against the Russian Federation for its full implementation of the Minsk agreements.

"Petro Poroshenko and John Kerry noted the need to maintain sanctions against Russia for it to fully implement the Minsk agreements and terminate aggression against Ukraine," the press service of the Ukrainian president has said.

Poroshenko also informed the U.S. official about the Ukrainian side's approaches to the settlement of the conflict in Donbas.

"The Ukrainian head of state expressed hope that the United States would continue to support the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and would contribute to the consolidation of international efforts," reads the report.

The sides also discussed the political and diplomatic ways for the de-occupation of Crimea. In this context, the president of Ukraine called for the active protection of rights of Crimean Tatars.
