As many as 260 people have died from flu and its complications in Ukraine since the onset of the flu outbreak in the country, the Ukrainian Health Ministry said in a report published on its website on Thursday.

"The latest information available indicates that 260 flu-related deaths confirmed by laboratory test results have been recorded since the onset of the outbreak, including three children under the age of 17. The highest flu mortality rates have been recorded in Odesa region - 40 cases, Kyiv 30 cases, the Cherkasy region 17, Kharkiv region 15, and Donetsk region 15," the ministry said.

Of those who have died from flu, only three people timely sought medical care, the ministry said.

"The analysis of [flu-related] deaths has shown that all those who died had not been vaccinated against flu," it said.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian Health Ministry put the number of deaths caused by flu and its complications at 253.
