Lukashenko, Atambayev calling on Russia, Turkey to restore neighborly relations

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has called on Russia and Turkey to make reciprocal steps toward restoring friendly relations.

"Mistakes in this turbulent world are inevitable, and they should be not inflated but settled. Excuse me, but this also concerns the last conflict between our Russia and our friend Turkey," Lukashenko said at an international conference on 'Neutrality policy: International cooperation for peace, security and development', in Ashgabat on Saturday.

Russia and Turkey should "stop inflaming passions and find an opportunity to make at least half a step in each other's direction, and this would help settle the problem," Lukashenko said. "This would help restore those good and close relations that have been and will certainly be between these nations and states," he said.

Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev supported Lukashenko and called on Moscow and Ankara to restore bilateral relations.

"This conference is a peacekeeping forum today, and a lot of initiatives have been put forward here," Atambayev said at the conference in Ashgabat on Saturday.

"I would like to support my counterpart, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, in calling on Russia and Turkey to stop escalating tensions in their bilateral relations and restore partnership, neighborliness, and friendly relations that have existed until recently between these two countries, which are both close to us," Atambayev said.
