Ukrainian army accuses militants of over 30 strikes overnight

Militants fired on Ukrainian military positions in Donbas, including with heavy weapons, more than 30 times overnight into Thursday, the press center of Kyiv's army operation in eastern Ukraine said on its Facebook account.

The militants fired grenade launchers, large-caliber machine guns and small arms on several occasions against positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Pisky, Novhorodske and Opytne, the press center said.

Ukrainian military positions in Krasnohorivka came under 82mm and 120mm mortar fire several times, and Grad systems were used in strikes against the southern outskirts of the village of Kurakhivka, it said.

Grenade launchers and weapons of infantry fighting vehicles were fired on Luhanske.

According to the press center, there was a brief armed clash with a militants' reconnaissance unit near the village of Novhorodske. The militants unit subsequently retreated.

The village of Shyrokyne also came under militants' fire. Grenade launchers, large-caliber machine guns and 82mm mortars were used against the Ukrainian army's positions in Shyrokyne, and 122mm artillery systems were fired twice after midnight.

Fighting has also intensified in the Luhansk region, the press center said.

"Strikes with 82mm mortars against positions of our forces were recorded near Triokhizbenka, and with grenade launchers on the outskirts of Schastia and the village of Zhovte," the press center said.
