Kyiv reports shootouts in Donbas

An armed clash between Ukrainian troops and opposing forces took place on the outskirts of the town of Avdiyivka, Donetsk region, on Tuesday, Ukrainian Presidential Administration spokesman Andriy Lysenko said.

The battle endured for about half an hour and in the end the enemy had to retreat, Lysenko told a briefing conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.

Also, two cases of firing on Ukrainian positions with 82mm mortar shells were registered near the town of Krasnohorivka in the Maryinka district. The enemy three times used grenade launchers at the settlement of Luhanske near Svitlodarsk. Snipers operated in the settlement of Novhorodske outside Horlivka, which was in the epicenter of hostilities. Also, an infantry fighting vehicle which opened fire once was registered there, Lysenko said.

As for the Mariupol direction, the majority of incidents were registered in the town of Hranitne, Volnovakha district, he said. "In particular, the enemy shelled the local green park, using 82mm mortars. Apart from that, the enemy controlling the left bank of the Kalmius River opened fire several times, using small arms and grenade launchers," Lysenko said.
