No automatic transfer of current officers to National police, requalification needed – Avakov

Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has said that the increase of appeals by Ukrainians living in cities where the new patrol police has started operating underlines the importance of requalification for law enforcement officers who want to work in the National Police.

"Everywhere, where the new patrol police work, the number of appeals has risen," Avakov, said during a field meeting in Kherson on Tuesday.

The level of trust in the new patrol police in Kyiv has grown to 85%, advisor to the First Deputy Interior Minister Khatia Dekanoidze said. In the near future, a new poll to ascertain the level of trust in the new police force will be held in other cities where it has started operating, Dekanoidze added.

"The officers of the patrol police are always working. The number of appeals from people has risen significantly. The number of the crimes solved on hot trails also increased," Patrol Police Chief Oleksandr Fatsevych said.

There will be no automatic transfer to the new patrol police for current law enforcement officers on November 7, Avakov said

"All willing to serve in the police must undergo recertification," he said.

In the near future, selection procedures for the new local police will be launched, pretrial investigation agencies will be reformed, and the Traffic Police will replace the State Automobile Inspection of Ukraine, Avakov said.
