Ukraine will remain unitary state – Poroshenko

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said once again that he will not allow Ukraine to stop being a unitary state.

"I am stressing particularly once again that Ukraine is, was, and a hundred percent will be a unitary state, no matter how our enemies would like to change this unitary system. We will never agree to this," Poroshenko said at a meeting of the Regional Development Council in Kyiv on Wednesday.

The Ukrainian constitution "will depend exclusively on the Ukrainian people," he said.

"Not a single paragraph and not a single line of it will be written in Moscow, or Brussels, or Washington but only in Kyiv," he added.

The philosophy of the reform envisions efficient measures to prevent any manifestations of separatism, he said.

The decentralization of power "has nothing in common with federalization," he said.

"I won't allow the slightest decentralization in such issues of defense, national security, foreign policy, the combat against corruption and the guarantees of the people's rights and freedoms," he said.

The country will pursue a centralized policy in these areas, he said.
