Eighteen participants in the Monday protest near the Verkhovna Rada suspected of mass disturbances have been apprehended and put in detention facilities in Kyiv.

"Eighteen people detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code are being held at Kyiv detention facilities and have been notified of being suspected under various articles of the Criminal Code. The rest have been interviewed and let go," a source in the city police department told Interfax-Ukraine.

The police are establishing the identity of the participants in the protest near the parliament building and collecting evidence, he said.

As to the detained soldier of the Sich special operations battalion who hurled a grenade during clashes near the Verkhovna Rada, a restriction on him is pending. He is suspected of illegal handling weapons, live ammo and explosives and an attempt on the life of a police officer.

The presidential draft law introducing decentralization amendments to the Ukrainian constitution passed the first reading by 265 votes at the Verkhovna Rada on Monday.

Opponents of the bill clashed with the police near the parliament building. A conscript of the Ukrainian National Guard was killed in those clashes and an exploding grenade hurled at the police lines. More than 140 police officers and civilians, including media workers, were injured.
