Poroshenko rules out deterioration of situation in Ukraine from Transdniestrian side

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko sees no way for the situation in the country to worsen from the side of Transdniestria.

"I don't see the chance for an escalation of the situation from the side of Transdniestria," Poroshenko said at a press conference in Odesa on Tuesday.

"What gives me this confidence? The absence of a common border between Transdniestria and Russia," he said.

There are enough Ukrainian forces, including National Guard units, along the Transdniestrian section of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, he said.

"Unfortunately, I cannot be so confident in relation to the occupied parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions," Poroshenko said, adding that the escalation of the tensions in eastern Ukraine can be stopped only by the international community's consolidated efforts.
