PrivatBank to assist in investigation into misuse of UAH 19 bln of NBU refinancing

Ukraine's largest bank PrivatBank (Kyiv) is cooperating with investigators involved with criminal proceedings into certain bank officials who are accused of misappropriating more than UAH 19 billion issued by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) as refinancing, the press service of the bank has told Interfax-Ukraine.
"We are aware of the existence of criminal proceedings. PrivatBank fully cooperates with the investigators and provides all the information and documents necessary to establish the objective truth of the case," a bank spokesman said.
According to the ruling of Pechersky District Court dated June 10, the court partially satisfied the investigators' petition and provided temporary access to confidential documents for a pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings recorded in the single register of judicial investigations on November 13, 2014.
"This order of access to documents, including documents containing banking secrecy, is expressly provided for by the current legislation of Ukraine and is a standard procedure. The circumstances outlined in the ruling of the court, are the subject of pre-trial investigation, not a fact. We are convinced that the investigation by examining the documents to which access was granted by the court will be able to objectively assess all the circumstances together, and to establish the truth," the report said.
The NBU press service, in turn, told Interfax-Ukraine that the Interior Ministry did not appeal to the regulator for assistance in the investigation. The State Financial Monitoring Service also said it did not contact the NBU department of financial monitoring on this issue.
