Genoa (Italy) Court of Appeals will consider extradition of former Ukrainian MP, leader of Rodina party Ihor Markov that was arrested in San Remo (Italy) on Wednesday, local Sanremo News media reported.

The Sanremo News doesn't specify the day of the hearing, but according to a number of other media, it will be held on August 14.

According to Sanremo News, Markov was detained near a casino of Hotel de Paris by Italian policemen due to the international arrest warrant. Markov was meeting with two Russian businessmen with whom the politician was planning to go to Monte Carlo (Monaco).

According to the statement, during the detention, Markov was trying to contest the arrest as a former MP, but still was arrested.

According to Riviera24 edition, ex-MP came to San Remo on Tuesday morning "with a truck and a brief case" and stayed in the four stars Hotel de Paris.

The detention was conducted in strict secrecy. According to the statement, the politician wasn't accompanied by bodyguards, and during the detention he didn't resist. Russian businessmen were detained together with Markov, but were released afterwards.

According to the media, Markov is currently in a prison in San Remo.

As reported, Markov was detained in Odesa on October 22, 2013 after having been notified of being suspected of disorderly conduct in 2007. Police said the matter concerned events in 2007, when protests against the installation of a monument to the Russian Empress Catherine the Great were staged near the Odesa regional administration building. Markov was suspected of orchestrating the assault of participants during these protests, and of attacking protesters himself.

On February 25, the Prymorsky District Court in Odesa freed Markov from custody.

Later on Ukrainian Interior Ministry has placed Markov on its wanted list.

The section "Persons who are hiding from the authorities" on the official website of the Interior Ministry states that Markov disappeared on November 4, 2014.

Markov is suspected of having committed an offense under Part 4, Article 296 of the Criminal Code (disorderly conduct and bodily injury). The punishment for violation of this law is imprisonment for between three to seven years.

In early August 2015, Markov delivered a speech at a Moscow press conference as a member of so-called Committee on Saving Ukraine led by ex-premier of Ukraine Mykola Azarov.
